The Newcomerstown Senior Center will have a community cards event on June 15 from 12:15 to 3:30 p.m.

Euchre will be the card game played during the free event. Teams of four are encouraged to sign up by calling 740-498-4523. Donations are always accepted as it supports senior center activities.

“Playing cards is something that draws our current members to the center each week. The members are hoping this event will encourage more folks who love to play cards to join us,” said Janet Tedrow, manager of the Newcomerstown Senior Center. “Our community is blessed to have this amazing place for our seniors to gather to enjoy daily lunches and activities together.”

The event will have refreshments provided by the board of directors at the senior center. “Our board is hoping to increase our membership through events such as this,” Tedrow said.

The membership dues are $5 annually.

The Newcomerstown Senior Center is affiliated with the Tuscarawas County Senior Center and receives levy funds to operate. The Newcomerstown Senior Center is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with activities and lunches offered daily. It is closed on holidays.

The Newcomerstown Senior Center has access to programs and services located at the Tuscarawas Senior Center such as minor home repair, in-home services, transportation and Bridges to Wellness. Applications for services are available at the Newcomerstown center.

All seniors age 60 and over living in Tuscarawas County are eligible for free transportation services due to funding through the Area Agency on Aging, Region 9. Riders do not have to be a member of a senior center to access services. Rides can be arranged by calling the senior center dispatcher in Dover at 330-364-6688.

“We recommend that anyone age 50 and over get on our mailing list to receive our newsletters. We offer a comprehensive newsletter from the Dover site on a quarterly basis and a monthly newsletter from each of the satellites. Call to get on the mailing list or sign up while you are at the community cards,” Tedrow said.
