The Massillon Museum will offer a free member workshop, Introduction to Earth Pigment with Emily Vigil, on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 2:30 p.m.

Participants will try mixing watercolor and acrylic paint recipes using locally gathered rocks and soils, then experiment with painting using their own handmade pigments.

Vigil, MassMu’s Studio M coordinator, earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Marshall University and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from Louisiana State University. She joined the Massillon Museum staff in 2009, after working as gallery coordinator for the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, teaching as an adjunct at several universities, and running the Birke Art Gallery in Huntington, West Virginia. She is a practicing artist and teaches art to preschoolers as part of the Artful Living and Learning program.

Anyone who holds a valid MassMu membership at any level is eligible to attend the workshop at no charge. Memberships are offered as low as $25 for individuals through corporate members at a variety of levels. To register, call operations officer Scot Phillips at 330-833-4061 ext. 111 or email bsphillips@massillonmuseum.org.

The 2021 membership campaign will continue through the end of the year. New members are welcome at any time.
