The inaugural Eastern Draft Breeders Event is scheduled for Nov. 17-18 at the Mt. Hope Event Center.

The event was created to promote, incentivize and educate draft horse breeders and enthusiasts who set the highest standards and continued progress within the industry.

The idea behind the event is to have good quality draft offspring available to exchange with breeders and prospective buyers from all over the United States and Canada.

Some of the first-day activities include a sale horse preview as well as a stallion service fee sale.

The idea with the stallion presentation is for potential buyers to gain information on what is out there — the stallions will be there for reviewing the qualities they have and see if those would translate to a buyer’s breeding program. They can buy and they’re able to get their mare in foal to that stallion to then get an offspring off of those genetics.

A dinner and a seminar will take place later that evening. Rhonda Cole, an acknowledged expert in the field, will speak about reproduction.

The second day will feature a weanling and yearling sale.

The sale is to showcase what people are producing with their stallions and to give people the opportunity to purchase those and take them to the next level or be able to either improve their breeding program or take them to county fairs or state fairs.

It’s an impressive lineup for a first-time event, and a great opportunity for people looking to get involved in the horse industry.
